U.S. Houses passes key part of Bush tax plan

WASHINGTON (AFX) - The House of Representatives has passed a key part of President George W Bush's 1.6 trln usd tax cut plan,officials said. The vote was 230 to 198, and was strictly along party lines. Only 10 Democrats joined 219 Republicans and one independent in passing the tax cut. This is the first part of the Bush tax cut plan to go to the House floor. Analysts expect some changes in the bill before it passes the Senate, where some Republicons have questioned the size of the tax cut. Earlier, the House rejected a Democratic alternative that would have cut taxes by 586 bln usd.
