New World teams up with Cisco to provide broadband services in Hong Kong
HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - New World Telephone announced it is tying up with Cisco Systems Inc to roll-out a new family of broadband services deployed over Hong Kong's first generation network, Xinhua news agency reported. The deployment involves approximately 100 mln hkd worth of IP-based networking products and solutions from Cisco Systems over a 12-month period, Albert Wong, managing director of New World Telephone, told a press conference. With the roll-out of the new broadband services, called GigaLink, New World Telephone's customers can gain connection to the internet at a speed of up to 10 megabits per second while ensuring that the network will be always on, at faster speeds, secure, reliable and offer benefits than other broadband carrier, executives of the company said. GigaLink will initially target prime commercial building customers, with small and medium-sized enterprises to follow, extending to residential users under a multi-stage roll-out plan, Xinhua said.
