China Mobile sees possible introduction of one-way billing after Jan 2002
HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - China Mobile (Hong Kong) does not rule out the possibility that one-way billing will take effect in China, but sees Jan 2002 as the earliest likely introduction date, chief financial executive Ding Donghua was quoted as saying by the Hong Kong Economic Times. Ding added, however, that since the Ministry of Information Industry needs some time for consultation regarding the new billing system, it is possible that implementation may be made even later. Last year, Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan said the new billing scheme, where the calling party pays for the entire cost of the call, would not be implemented in 2000 or 2001. Separately, Ding said that if the company's recently announced six-tier tariff scheme is welcomed in the market, future revenue from preferential rates is likely to offset the impact to the company of a one-way billing system.
