Hang Seng Bank e-banking registered users 110,000
HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - The number of users registered for Hang Seng Bank's e-banking services to date is 110,000, general manager and head of e-banking and IT Paul To said. Speaking to reporters, To said the bank's on-line transactions account for about 8 pct of total transactions. More than 40 pct of the total registered e-banking customers have an on-line investment account, with the total number of on-line transactions exceeding 11 mln since the August launch, he said. "About 47 pct of the bank's total securities trading transactions by count are now conducted on-line," he added. He said the bank will continue to introduce more services to e-banking customers by the end of the year, including instant loan approval and electronic bill presentment and payment. Meanwhile, the bank's general manager and head of retail sales and services Thomas Tsui said the bank has currently no plans to impose charges on its ATM users. "We will keep our eyes on the latest market developments before making any decisions," he said. The market has been speculating that the bank's parent, HSBC, will impose charges on its ATM users with the final stage of deregulation on interest rate rules taking effect on July. "Technically speaking, it is not necessary for Hang Seng Bank to follow the move should HSBC figure out anything," Tsui said.
