Bank of China cuts Hong Kong 2001 GDP growth forecast to 3.0-3.5 pct from 4.0

HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - Bank of China has downgraded its forecast for Hong Kong's 2001 GDP to a growth of 3.0-3.5 pct from 4.0 pct. The bank's chief executive for the Hong Kong/Macau regional office, Liu Jinbao, said: "The economic slowdown in the U.S. has complicated (the prospects for the) global economy and our research team has revised down (the forecast for) Hong Kong's economic growth to 3.0-3.5 pct from 4.0 pct." Liu said the bank will continue to watch closely global economic developments for any possible further downward revision in the 2001 GDP forecast for Hong Kong.
