Report: 2001 global mobile phone sales 506.5 mln, 23% yr-on-yr

A research report of Gartner Dataquest expected 2001 global mobile phone sales volume to be 506.5 mln, up 23% compared with last year, while the growth rate is lower than last year¡¦s 38%. An analyst of the company said the market was oversupplied despite of continuous growth of the mobile phone sales. Therefore, only the manufacturers with products of diversity can thrive in the market. The company predicted the mobile phone market will have ¡§ steady growth¡¨ till 2005 and global mobile phone sales volume will reach 740 mln.The company also indicated that mobile phone sales in Pacific Asia and Janan outperform other regions. The sales volume in Pacific Asia and Japan is expected to reach 169.6 mln, up 31% compared with last year.
