BP Amoco says no guarantee it will win Shenzhen LNG supply contract

BEIJING (AFX-ASIA) - BP Amoco Plc may not necessarily win the contract to supply liquefied natural gas to the proposed LNG import terminal in Shenzhen, even though it has been provisionally chosen as the foreign partner to build the terminal and pipeline, the China Daily reported, citing the company. The paper quoted BP spokesman Yi Min as saying: "It is hard to say whether BP will be picked as the scheme's gas supplier, but I think the government will fully consider the price and security of the LNG supply, which is the strength of BP. "BP has expressed its strong desire to supply LNG for the project. We have resources in the region, including Indonesia's Tangghu field and oilfields in Australia, to supply us," he added. China National Offshore Oil Corp announced Monday that BP Amoco had been chosen to hold exclusive talks to become the foreign partner in the Guangdong LNG project, and will hold a 30 pct stake in the venture. The design stage of the project is expected to start by the end of this year, the China Daily quoted Cao Yunshi, senior vice-president of CNOOC Ltd, a unit of CNOOC Corp.
