HSBC plans to impose charge on monthly balance below 5,000 hkd: report
HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - HSBC is planning to impose bank charges on 650,000 clients whose average monthly balance falls below 5,000 hkd, the South China Morning Post cited a senior industrial source as saying. The source said the clients are expected to be charged on "almost all services", even on regular items, such as the issue of a balance statement or withdrawing money over the counter. The source said the bank is now managing 4 mln accounts, and about 15 pct of the accounts fall below the new minimum balance requirement. Last week, HSBC said it will announce plans on fees and charges on April 3 in response to interest rate deregulation in July.
