Cheung Kong to develop high technology as one of its core businesses

HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - Cheung Kong (Holdings) executive director Edmond Ip said the company will develop high technology as one of its core businesses. Cited by the Hong Kong Economic Journal, Ip said he expects the return from high technology will be significant in the future. Ip said Cheung Kong has listed business diversity as a top priority for its future development, and high technology along with business in Singapore and China will be highlighted as part of the company's business diversity. However, Ip said Cheung Kong has no intention of becoming a major property developer in Singapore, but will decide whether to participate in certain projects based on their merits. Earlier this month, the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority awarded a mixed-used commercial, hotel and residential downtown site on Marina Boulevard to a consortium comprised of units of Keppel Land Ltd, Cheung Kong and Hongkong Land Ltd. Ip said he expects the Marina Boulevard project in Singapore will represent a total investment by the consortium of about 4.4 bln hkd.
