Cathay Pacific says HK accounts for only 25 pct of revenue on visitor decline
HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd board director Philip Chen said Hong Kong accounts for only 25 pct of the airline's revenue due to a decline in the number of tourists to the territory. Cited by the Hong Kong Economic Journal, Chen said the decrease in visitors came after depreciations of currencies in Cathay Pacific Airways' major markets. The report did not give comparative figures for Hong Kong's previous revenue weighting. In the report, deputy chairman and CEO David Turnbull said Cathay Pacific's business has been affected by an economic slowdown in the U.S. Turnbull said the company is trying its best to cut its operating costs, while fuel costs now are 15-20 pct higher than a year earlier.
