SHANGHAI (AFX-ASIA) - The 570 China-listed companies which have already published their 2000 annual results achieved average earnings per share of 0.3016 yuan last year, the China Securities newspaper reported. The companies achieved an average return on net assets of 10.7206 pct, the report said. In their 1999 annual results, China-listed companies achieved an average EPS of 0.2038 yuan and an average return on net capital of 8.1993 pct. The report said 557 of the 570 companies which have published their results earned a net profit last year. The 570 companies' average income from investments in 2000 rose 77.36 pct from a year earlier, it said, adding that this was the business item showing the largest annualised increase in the companies' accounts. It said 435 of the 570 companies achieved an increase in profit from their main business, while 135 companies saw a decline in their main business profit. The companies' average income from subsidies dropped 21.08 pct year-on-year, it said, adding that this drop was related to changes in the government's policy on tax rebates. A total of 410 of the companies plan to pay a year-end dividend, it said, noting that only 297 out of 970 China-listed companies paid year-end dividends for 1999.
