CLP Hldgs unit buys 49 pct stake in Shaanxi power station for 18.35 mln usd

HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - CLP Holdings Ltd said its wholly-owned subsidiary CLP Power China Ltd has acquired a 49 pct stake in Shenmu II Power Station in Shaanxi Province for 18.35 mln usd. In a statement, it said CLP Power acquired Shenmu II Power Station from Enserch International Ltd, a subsidiary of the U.S. utility TXU Development Co. It said CLP awaiting approval from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation regarding the transaction. Shenmu II Power Station, with two 100 MW units, is a mime-mouth coal-fired power plant located at Shenmu County, northern Shaanxi. The power station entered into commercial operation in January 2001. The remaining 51 pct stake in the power station is currently owned by the Shenhua Group, which will be transferred to Shenhua Group's wholly-owned unit Beijing Guohua Electric Power Corp. CLP Power China and Beijing Guohua have agreed in principle to inject their respective interests in Shenmu II, after the effective transfer, into CLP Guohua Power Co Ltd. CLP Guohua is a 49:51 joint stock company owned by CLP Power and Beijing Guohua. It was set up in January.
