China 2001 tax revenue 305.83 bln yuan by March 20, up 30.9 pct yr-on-yr

SHANGHAI (AFX-ASIA) - China's tax revenue between end-2000 and March 20 amounted to 305.83 bln yuan, up 30.9 pct from a year earlier, the State Administration of Taxation said, according to the China Securities newspaper. During the period, tax revenue from duties on imported goods and from stamp duty was 3.2 bln yuan less than at the same time last year. Revenue from value-added tax and consumption tax amounted to 132.3 bln yuan, up 32.7 pct from a year earlier, while revenue from corporate profit tax amounted to 39.02 bln yuan, up 57.5 pct year-on-year. SAT director Jin Renqing said the country's tax revenue in the first quarter was better than expected, indicating that the economic environment has improved.
