U.S.' Lindsey says economy in 'period of pause'

WASHINGTON (AFX) - White House economic adviser Lawrence Lindsey said the U.S. economy is in a "period of pause," but he added that the future looks bright. "We are experiencing a slowing economy. It now seems that the key indicators, such as industrial production, peaked last September. The same thing was true with personal income, and with hours worked," Lindsey said in a speech to a manufacturers' association here. "We are in a period of perhaps a pause, at least in the industrial sector," he said, adding that "it is also true that the future looks very bright." Lindsey said that the U.S. belief in trusting the free market, welcoming individuals and companies from abroad, and maintaining reasonable regulations and low tax rates, will ultimately underline a positive future.
