Shenzhen A-shares close flat; B-shares sharply higher

SHENZHEN (AFX-ASIA) - A-share prices closed flat, off intra-day lows, while sentiment remained cautious amid continued speculation that the government will soon launch a policy of floating listed companies' state shares, dealers said. While investors continued to focus on domestic issues, uncertainty over the outlook for Sino-U.S. relations following the collision of a U.S. navy surveillance aircraft and a Chinese fighter jet also contributed to the cautious mood, they said. The A-share sub-index inched up 6.41 points or 0.11 pct to 5,443.72 on turnover of 8.95 bln yuan after trading between 5,450.64 and 5,401.59. B-share prices closed sharply higher, in continued strong buying by domestic individuals, they said. Despite the gains, analysts said there are growing concerns that B-shares could soon undergo a sharp correction, adding that several key domestic institutions appear to have taken profits on their B-share positions and are now seeking other investment opportunities, particularly in China-related Hong Kong shares. The B-share sub-index closed 64.69 points or 3.27 pct higher at 2,038.08 after trading between 2,039.05 and 1,969.78.
