Shenzhen A-shares close slightly higher while B-shares sharply up
SHENZHEN (AFX-ASIA) - A-share prices closed slightly higher on institutional support for key large-caps in thin turnover amid generally cautious sentiment, while B-shares ended sharply up on the back of strong buying by domestic individuals, dealers said. But underlying mood remained cautious on continued speculation that the government will soon launch a policy of floating state shares in listed firms, they said, adding that institutions have become more wary about pushing share prices higher amid concerns that domestic growth will slow as the external environment deteriorates. The A-share sub-index rose 32.27 points or 0.59 pct to close at 5,475.99 on turnover of 8.44 bln yuan after trading between 5,479.53 and 5,437.48. B-share prices closed sharply higher, dealers said, with the B-share sub-index ending 47.59 points or 2.33 pct higher at 2,085.67 after trading between 2,120.74 and 2,058.51. While B-shares remained the subject of strong buying by domestic individuals, analysts said several key domestic institutions have already taken large profits from the B-share market and are now seeking more attractive investment opportunities elsewhere, particularly in China-related Hong Kong shares. The component A- and B-share index closed 33.33 points or 0.67 pct higher at 4,973.54 on turnover of 10.88 bln yuan, after trading between a high of 4,980.18 and a low of 4,937.13.
