China Mobile awards Nortel Networks 105 mln usd deal to expand GSM network
HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd has awarded Nortel Networks 105 mln usd worth of contracts to expand its GSM digital cellular networks in Hebei, Anhui and Guizhou provinces, Nortel said. In the Hebei province, Nortel Networks will implement the expansion of China Mobile's GSM dual band digital cellular network, covering five key southern cities and increasing the network subscriber capacity by one million to a total of five million subscribers, the company said in a statement. The contract is worth 83 mln usd. In the Anhui and Guizhou provinces, Nortel Networks will enhance the existing GSM single band network to dual band wireless services. It will also increase Anhui's network capacity by 140,000 subscribers to a total of 300,000 subscribers. Guizhou's subscribers will be increased by 330,000 subscribers to a total of 930,000. All three expanded networks are scheduled for commercial service by September, the statement added.
