Datang Telecom hopes Lucent trade secrets theft case solved soon: China Daily
BEIJING (AFX-ASIA) - Datang Telecom Technology hopes the trade secrets theft case in the U.S. involving three Chinese scientists is resolved as soon as possible to avoid influencing the company's relationship with Lucent technologies Inc, the China Daily reported citing Datang spokesman Meng Youwei. The three Chinese were arrested by the FBI in the U.S. last week and charged with giving trade secrets stolen from Lucent to Datang, one of China's main telecoms equipment manufacturers, in a 1.2 mln usd joint venture known as DTNET, the paper said. Datang, which signed a strategic partnership contract with Lucent last year, said it was "shocked by these reports and feels sorry," the China Daily said. It added: "As a publicly-listed company, Datang strictly abides by laws and regulations designed to protect intellectual property rights and has always conducted co-operation with foreign partners on that basis." Kung Hing-tong, a spokesman for Lucent Technologies (China) was quoted by the paper as saying Lucent hopes the case will not damage its relationships with its Chinese partners.
