MoF's Lou: China entry to WTO 'not that vital'
SHANGHAI (AFX-ASIA) - China will not concede to unrealistic requirements in its bid to gain entry to the World Trade Organisation, vice-Minister of Finance Lou Jiwei said, adding that it is "not that vital" for the country to join the WTO. Lou said China has solved most key issues and is working on a multilateral basis to resolve remaining issues. These include requests for China to reduce support for agriculture and to enter the WTO without being recognised as a developing country, he said. "These concessions are impossible for China," he said. "Whether China will join the WTO is not that vital to us. We have already made preparations for all sorts of possibilities," Lou said.
