China to probe tax evasion by "pro-independence" Taiwan investors: report
TAIPEI (AFX-ASIA) - The mainland authorities are planning to launch a major crackdown on tax evasion by Taiwan investors in the middle of the month, the Economic Daily News reported, citing unnamed sources in Beijing. The move will be directed mainly at Taiwan investors active in the southeastern coastal areas such as the Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, in particular those who support the island's independence, the sources said. The authorities will not tolerate these investors earning returns on the mainland while pushing for Taiwan independence at the same time, they added.
