China govt sets target for Ertan Power Station to sell 12.7 bln KwH this yr

SHANGHAI (AFX-ASIA) - China's central government has set a target for the Ertan Hydroelectric Power Station to generate 12.7 bln KwH of electricity this year, Ertan chairman Pu Hanshen said, according to the China Economic Times. Pu said the Communist Party's central committee and the State Council's senior leaders took action during last year to protect the power station's sales, enabling the station to generate 830 mln KwH of electricity in 2000. He noted that in mid-2000, Premier Zhu Rongji criticised the province-based power industry reforms for creating barriers to the distribution of power between provinces. Ertan's output target for this year has been confirmed by State Development Planning Commission minister Zeng Peiyan and vice-minister Zhang Guobao, as well as other senior officials at the State Economic and Trade Commission and the State Power Corp, he said. If the construction of power distribution networks is accelerated, Ertan may even be able to generate 14.6 bln KwH during the year, he added. Pu also noted that Ertan remains unable to sell its power at the offtake price set for the power station by the central government. The central government set an offtake price of 0.341 yuan per KwH for this year, but the station is expecting to sell its power at a price of 0.2351 yuan per KwH, up from 0.209 yuan in 2000, he said.
