China Unicom expects market share to rise to 35 pct over next 3-5 yrs

HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - China Unicom Ltd executive director Li Zhengmao said the company expects to boost its share of China's mobile phone market to 35 pct over the next 3-5 years.

Cited by the Hong Kong Economic Times, Li said China Unicom had 22.7 pct market share at the end of 2000.

Li said the company is hoping to acquire 18 more mobile phone networks from parent China United Telecommunications Corp as soon as possible, but added there is no exact timetable yet for the acquisition.
