China to support 4 bln usd rail link with Thailand: Chavalit

BANGKOK (AFX-ASIA) - The Chinese government will underwrite the construction of a 4 bln usd railway linking Thailand and China, the Thai News Agency quoted Defense Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh as saying

Following a meeting with visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, Chavalit said China will finance the high-speed train link.

"This project will create a lot of jobs for Thai people," Chavalit said.Zhu, whom Chinese officials described as an "old friend" of Chavalit, met with the Thai defense minister during the second day of a four-day official 

visit to Thailand.

Chavalit did not elaborate on the rail project.
