NTT DoCoMo may join Smart Communications of PLDT

Cited Philippine sources as saying, NTT DoCoMo, the biggest mobile phones company in Japan might acquire 40% stake of Smart Communications from PLDT, the subsidiary of First Pacific (0142) in Philippine.

Smart was the biggest mobile phones company in Philippine, which was wholly owned by PLDT. PLDT previously planned to list it on the market. Furthermore, it was reported that DoCoMo was in the talks with PLDT in respect of the dealings mentioned above and the former had audited the accounts of Smart.

The parent company of NTT DoCoMo now holds 15% shareholding of PLDT.
