China Mobile to introduce GPRS service in Shanghai in June

China Mobile (0941) Shanghai branch managing team revealed when meeting with securities analysts in Lyons that the company was testing GPRS (2.5G) technology and would introduce the service as early as June this year, adding that all transmitting stations would get prepared for the GPRS service by the year-end.

China Mobile Shanghai branch boasted 3.5 mln users last year and hoped to increase its subscribers to 5 mln this year. Its Q1 market share has been lifted to 75.9%, claiming 62% of the new users in the local market.
