Shanghai CPI up 0.4 pct mth-on-mth

SHANGHAI (AFX-ASIA) - Shanghai's consumer price index in April rose 0.4 pct from a month earlier, the Shanghai Statistics Bureau said, according to the Shanghai Daily. According to the report, the bureau said CPI was pushed higher by consumer product prices, which rose by 0.2 pct month-on-month, and by service prices, which rose by 1.4 pct. Service prices were boosted by price hikes for bus tickets, local telephone calls and tourism. Food prices rose 0.8 pct month-on-month, boosted by higher vegetable prices, it said. Bureau analyst Chen Xijing said clothing prices dropped 1.8 pct due to seasonal price cuts, while household facility prices dropped 1.0 pct as household electrical appliance manufacturers cut prices. Telecommunications equipment prices dropped 3.4 pct.
