Motorola wins 141 mln usd GSM contracts from China Unicom parent

BEIJING (AFX-ASIA) - Motorola Inc said it has won three contracts worth a total of 141 mln usd from China Unicom Ltd parent China United Telecommunications Corp to supply mobile phone network equipment to expand its GSM networks in Jiangsu, Shandong and Xinjiang provinces. The projects are scheduled for completion by October. Part of the contracts for the Shandong and Xinjiang projects were awarded to Motorola through China Eastern Communications Company Limited (Eastcom) which has licensing and joint venture agreements to manufacture, distribute and provide services for Motorola's GSM and CDMA cellular infrastructure products within China. Motorola said it has been China United Telecommunications' largest mobile wireless system supplier since 1995 and has won more than 900 mln GSM and CDMA infrastructure contracts in China since April 25.
