Nokia wins GSM network expansion order in China worth 70 mln usd

HELSINKI (AFX) - Nokia Corp said it won an order worth about 70 mln usd to deliver equipment and services to expand the GSM 900 mobile phone network of China's Jiangxi Mobile Communication Corp. Deliveries have already begun, it said. The deal represents the largest single network-infrastructure contract signed by Jiangxi MCC since it was founded in August 1999, Nokia said. The network expansion will allow Jiangxi MCC to increase capacity, as well as improving coverage in its network. Under terms of the agreement, Nokia will deliver high-capacity "i-series" mobile switching centers (MSCi) and home location registers (HLRi) to Jiangxi MCC. The i-series is Nokia's newest generation of GSM core-network equipment, providing high capacity in a compact and efficient design. Each MSCi has capacity for 400,000 subscribers, while each HLRi has the capacity to handle 1.2 mln subscribers.
