GM confirms to move away from Firestone tires; Ford sees recall taking 9 mths

NEW YORK (AFX) - General Motors Corp confirmed it plans to carry out a decision it made earlier this year to shift away from Firestone brand tires in the next model year, substituting Bridgestone brand tires instead, the Wall Street Journal reported. 

GM uses Firestone tires on about 14 model lines.

Separately, USA Today quoted Ford Motor Co as saying its recall of up to 13 mln Firestone tires could take up to nine months to complete.

Nissan is dropping Firestone tires from its Altima sedan and Subaru has dropped Firestone from its Outback model, USA Today added.
