PCCW's Li says no urgency in finding new CEO

HONG KONG (AFX-ASIA) - Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd executive chairman Richard Li said there is no urgency for the appointment of a new chief executive officer, adding that he will only consider a new CEO next year.

Speaking to reporters after the AGM, Li said he will wait until PCCW announces its full-year 2001 results next year before deciding on the appointment of a new CEO.

"If we cannot find a suitable CEO, we will not push someone into it for the sake of it," he said.

Li did not rule out finding a CEO from within the company.

When asked why the company was bothering to look for a CEO when there is no urgency to do so, he said: "There has never been a direct search for a CEO.

"

He said PCCW is looking for new talent.

At 11:30 am, PCCW was up 0.25 at 2.70 hkd.
