Hutchison Whampoa and PCCW rumored to have intention to bid for 3G licenses

Taiwan would put out five 3G licenses for market bidding, reported by sources, Hutchison Whampoa (0013) and PCCW (0008) both had intention to bid for them.

Xin Pao Daily quoted sources as saying Hutchison Whampoa might jointly bid for 3G licenses with a Taiwan group, while South China Morning Post quoted the managing team of Hutchison Whampoa as saying the group had no intention to bid for the licenses.

South China Morning Post also quoted sources as saying that the joint venture formed by PCCW and Telstra might bid for the licenses together with a Taiwan organization.
