Hutchison Whampoa secures US$5.1 bln by acquisition of Deutsche Telecom

Hutchison Whampoa Ltd (0013) announced that the merger between VoiceStream and Deutsche Telecom has been finalized, and the company secured US$5.1 bln from the deal, including US$885 mln in cash and 206.6 mln Deutsche Telecom shares worth US$4.2 bln calculated by the closing price yesterday.

Hutchison Whampoa Ltd said that it made profit of HK$30 bln, a 4-time rate of return of investment in VoiceStream in 1998 and 1999.
