Lucent rumored to lay off another 5000 employees

According to report, Lucent, telecom equipment manufacturer, will speed up business restructuring paces to improve operating environment, including trimming off another 5000 employees. The sources said Lucent plans to launch a retirement plan, aiming at cutting off thousands management jobs.



When asked about the rumors, Henry Schacht, chairman of Lucent, made no response but said the business restructuring focus in next phrase will be on further cost cut, production decrease, lightening financial pressure and plant sales. He said details will be posted in few days or weeks.
