US May consumer index up 0.5%; personal income up 0.2%
US Department of Commerce announced that the May consumer index gained 0.5%, or US$32.1 bln, higher than the market expectation of 0.3%, while the figure in April also jumped 0.5%. Besides, the May personal income inched up by 0.2%, lower than the market expectation of 0.4%, vs the April figure of 0.2%. Personal savings met market expectation and dropped 1.3%. The indices, according to analysts, indicated that the consumption desire was not reduced as a result of decrease in the income.
