PC sales drop for the first time since 1986
The computer market research company Dataquest said the global personal computers sales in Q2 dropped by 1.9% to 30.4 mln vs the same period of last year, recording the first time of sales decrease since IBM established personal computers market in 1986. According to the data of Dataquest, the sales and profits of Compaq, Gateway and HP all decreased in Q2, which was due to the slowing down economy, reluctance of the consumers and enterprises to purchase new computers. Besides, some analysts pointed out the high-speed increase period of the computer markets had passed and the computer markets had become mature markets. However, another computer market research company IDC forecasted that the global sales of personal computers would only increase 5.85.
