ASM Pacific to cut down cost by laying off 100 employees

Patrick Lam, director of ASM Pacific Technology (0522), said at press conference for posting earnings that the company has cut off 100 jobs recently and arranged two months vacation for one fourth mainland employees. Most laid-off or on-vacation employees are from production. But he also stressed that except for laid-off employees, there are also 70 hands increased for new product development or market development. The company does not has job-cut plan at present. Totally the company has approximately 6000 employees, of which half are in mainland, 1000 in Hong Kong and the rest in other regions of Asia Pacific.
