Philip Morris makes public apology for improper comment

Global biggest tobacco manufacturer Philip Morris issued a written apology for an earlier statement that claimed that citizens¡¦ smoking helped the government reduce expense. The Czech branch of Philip Morris pointed out in a report conducted for the government that the citizens¡¦ smoking would reduce the lifespan and thus can help the government reduce expenses in medical care, pension and housing for elder. The statement stirred a strong storm of criticism in the America and Europe and triggered a protest at the headquarters in New York. Philip Morris said in the apology statement that the study was a serious false and all the staff felt sorry for this. The stock shed 48 US cents, or 1.074% to US$44.2 after the release of the apology statement.
