Hang Seng Index down 193.72 points or 1.74% to close Wednesday
The benchmark Hang Seng Index ended lower, after the Nasdaq market fell overnight, displeased by Hewlett-Packard's US$25 billion acquisition of Compaq Computer Corp. At the day's close, the HSI was down 193.72 points, or 1.74 percent, at 10,943.14, having moved between 10,859.75 and 11,053.65. Turnover was HK$5.7 billion, down from yesterday's HK$6.7 billion. The Growth Enterprise Market Index, which tracks the performance of the technology-laden second board, shed 1.48 points, or 0.76 percent, to 194.09. Turnover was HK$48.4 million, up from yesterday's HK$38 million.
