Japan stocks open sharply higher despite U.S. falls

Share prices opened sharply higher Tuesday morning as investors have already factored in steep falls on U.S. stock markets overnight. At 0911 JT, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average was up 244.67 points, or 2.6%, at 9,749.08. The Nikkei 225 Dec futures contract was up 340 points at 9,790 on the Osaka Securities Exchange. The Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) rose 18.88 points to 1,015.33.
