U.S. stocks end higher on bush¡¯s stimulating proposal
The Dow industrials broke through 9000 Wednesday after President Bush proposed an economic-stimulus package of $60 billion to $75 billion. The software sector led a broad technology rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 173.19, or 1.9 percents, to close at 9123.78, its first close above 9000 since trading resumed after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The Nasdaq Composite Index surged 88.48, or 5.9 percents, to end at 1580.81. It was the Nasdaq's fifth-highest percentage gain this year.The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index gained 20.95 to 1072.28.
