Deficit up $10B if salaries tax payment ceased: Chief Executive

There is no suggestion of suspension of payment of salaries tax in the latest Policy Address delivered yesterday. Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa admitted in a radio programme this morning that he had considered the idea, but finally the Government decided not to accept such a proposal since the fiscal deficit in this fiscal year will increase by $10 billion provided suspension of salaries
